The PRSA NJ member spotlight recognizes and helps us get to know our fellow chapter members. Each month, we randomly select a PRSA NJ member or members to highlight. This month, we are featuring Mara Barlow who joined PRSA NJ in July 1993 – almost 30 years ago. You will get to learn more about Mara below and find out why membership in PRSA NJ is important to her.
Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications, NJ Sharing Network
PRSA NJ member since July 1993
How did you get into the field of PR? I am one of those people who actually studied communications with an emphasis on PR and throughout my career all my roles have been in the field. Thirty-six years ago, it was tough to find fulfilling work, but after an exciting stint promoting NJ tourism, I landed my dream position with a nonprofit, NJ Sharing Network, where I have been for the last 30 years sharing the life-saving benefits of organ donation and transplantation.
What do you love most about PR? I love the power of PR to change mindsets and influence generations! My involvement in mentorship has allowed me to shape future leaders. I also take pride in working with my teammates to develop clear and consistent messaging for PR and all forms of communications. It feels great to bring together various departments within our organization to promote our mission.
What is the value of being a member of PRSA NJ? Although admittedly I am not as active as I would like to be, the resources are exceptional. And the people you meet along the way are among the finest.
THANK YOU Mara for being a valued member of PRSA NJ and to all of our members for being a part of our wonderful chapter!
