How did you get into the field of PR?
Sort of by accident! I spent the first eight years of my career as a TV news producer. At the age of 28 I got laid off when my show was canceled. A publicist who I knew fairly well responded to my email blast looking for a job, asking me if I wanted to help freelance on a client of his. That was how I started my company. The rest, as they say, is history!
What do you love most about PR?
The people — both on my team and our clients. If you enjoy the people you collaborate with, you’ll never work a day in your life!
What is one of your most valuable experiences in PR?
Keeping up with your connections. I’ve had clients come back literally ten years later — and media that reply to pitches from – I kid you not – three years prior. Keep up with your contacts, it really works!
What is the value of being a member of PRSA NJ?
To connect with and learn from the others in this group. It’s wonderful to be part of an organization that aims to help and support PR practitioners.
